Shrimp..

One of my favorite baits to use is shrimp.

Little shrimp tip.. Get to know your fish manager at your local fish market or grocery store. They will throw alot of shrimp away if it sits in the bins to long due to seafood regulations. Some of them will save it for you and sell it to you for a few dollars a bag. Get to know them, it is worthwhile if you use alot of shrimp..

I will unfreeze them and place them in baggies with about 8 to 10 each in them depending on their size. Just leave the shells on them and pinch off the tip of the tail shell as to not poke through the frozen baggies works best. Refreeze them solid again. We normally leave on a Thursday for a tournament and just ice them down, so by the time we get to them on a Saturday, they are kinda stinky and not as fresh as the normal store bought type for human consumption. I will also take a few and place in another jar so they degrade at a faster rate if set in the sun. I do the same with clams and add a few shrimp in with them. So we have a choice of which type of shrimp we want to use.

Best use of a kahal hook there is as you thread the shrimp on, the kahal hook gives the bait a natural look in the water.  Simply take off the last two hulls of the shrimp and thread it on with the hook sticking out of the tail slightly.    I'll switch up to a 5/0 if they are the the larger shrimp.

I also soak them down a jelly jar in vanilla extract also to try. This is what I used and caught that 19.5 pounder Willie is holding up in the picture at Memphis last year
